AlterJam (“AlterJam”, “we”, “us”) is a social platform for creating and sharing music, operated by Hicham Bardawil. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the AlterJam mobile app and this website, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up — by email, Google, or Facebook — we collect your name, email address, and profile photo, along with the profile details you add (such as your instruments, genres, and country).
Content you create. Audio recordings, jams, track titles, cover images, comments, and other content you produce or upload in the app.
Usage and interactions. The jams you like, bookmark, play, report, or share, and basic activity needed to power features like your personalized feed and recommendations.
Device and diagnostic data. App version, device type, and analytics/diagnostic events that help us understand usage and fix problems.
How we use your information
- To provide and operate the app — creating jams, recording and mixing tracks, and playing back audio.
- To personalize your feed and recommend jams that match your interests.
- To process recordings, including AI-based cleanup and auto-mixing of tracks.
- To send notifications about activity relevant to you.
- To maintain safety — reviewing reported content and enforcing our terms.
- To improve AlterJam through aggregated, diagnostic analytics.
How your content is shared
Jams and the profile information associated with them are social by nature: when you publish a jam, it can be seen, played, and built upon by other AlterJam users. Please only upload content you have the rights to share.
Service providers
We use Google Firebase to run AlterJam, including Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Google Analytics for Firebase. Signing in with Google or Facebook is handled by those providers. These services process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your profile and the content associated with it, except where we’re required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections and the security controls provided by our cloud infrastructure, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Children’s privacy
AlterJam is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights and choices
You can review and update your profile in the app, and you can delete your account and all associated data at any time. To request access to or deletion of your data, contact us at the address below.
Legal bases for processing (EEA & UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on these legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to create your account and provide the core features of AlterJam (recording, jamming, playback).
- Legitimate interests — to personalize your feed, keep the Service safe, and improve AlterJam, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Consent — where we ask for it (for example, certain optional analytics); you can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — where we must process data to comply with the law.
Your rights under the GDPR
If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a portable copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise these rights in the app or by emailing us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
International data transfers
AlterJam runs on Google Firebase, and your information may be processed and stored on servers in the United States and other countries where Google operates. Where data is transferred out of the EEA or UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information. To make a request, contact us at the address below.
Cookies and third-party content (this website)
This website does not set its own tracking cookies and does not run advertising or analytics. We do load two third-party elements:
- An embedded YouTube video in privacy-enhanced mode (
youtube-nocookie). YouTube only contacts Google’s servers if you press play; that interaction is governed by Google’s privacy policy. - Our display font is self-hosted, so loading the site does not send your data to any font provider.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes will be reflected here.
